PRACTICE THE GOSPEL
Let’s do an imaginary exercise, shall we?
Imagine a music sheet with GREAT MUSIC open on the piano rest.
Then someone who can read music finds it, and just looking at it he knows it is full of intricate BEAUTY, MELODY and HARMONY. The printed notes tell him that.
And so he wants to enjoy it, to have his spirit lifted by it. But just knowing it is there and that it is wonderful doesn’t create any impact in him.
HE MUST PLAY IT.
Then his ears, his senses, his musical response makes the printed notes come alive and find expression. It is like meat and drink to him.
Did you get that? THAT IS THE GOSPEL!
WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THIS GOSPEL?
It is TRUTH and can be PRINTED and LEARNED from a book, in church or a college.
But just believing it is truth, is like looking at a sheet of music.
It needs to be:
1. PRACTICED
James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
2. LIVED
2 Corinthians 5:15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
3. TALKED ABOUT TO OTHERS
Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
It is only then that this music comes into our soul.
THE GOSPEL IS GOOD NEWS – AND MUST BE PUBLISHED.
Psalms 68:11 The Lord have the word. Great was the company of those that published it.
If we have good news, then it must be published.
2 Corinthians 5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and have given to us the ministry of reconcilation.
Verse 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed us unto us the word of reconcilation.
